Temporary agreement reached in Glencoe following taxi/private transporters dispute

Parents are still unsure if their children will have transport to school on Monday

Taxis are again operating from Glencoe following a meeting this morning between the taxi association, police, the traffic department, scholar transport representatives and Councillor Mbulelo Phakathi of Ward 3, Sithembile, and some community representatives.

The meeting was called after taxi drivers blocked access to and from Sithembile and prevented private transporters and buses from taking scholars to school and commuters to work.

This followed a dispute between taxi operators and private transporters.

An agreement was reached at the meeting whereby the access road was cleared and taxis started ferrying passengers to and from Dundee and other areas.

Another meeting will be held soon, sources said.
