9 arrested following Glencoe bottle store robbery

Those arrested will be profiled to determine if they are linked to any other robberies in the district.

Nine people were arrested and several police uniforms and firearms seized following a robbery at the Sithembile Bottle Store (known colloquially as Ebhareni)  early on Monday morning.

Alcohol, cash, and a sound system were taken.

Following a tip-off, members of the Glencoe K9 and Umzinyathi District Crime Intelligence units swooped on a home in Sibongile where the suspects were said to be packing up their belongings and were about to leave.

All nine suspects, including one woman, were arrested.

The looted alcohol and other goods were also recovered.

“These suspects will also be profiled to see if they are linked with the robberies that have been taking place in Dundee and Glencoe. They are to appear in the Dundee Magistrate’s Court,” a SAPS spokesperson said.

The district commissioner, Major General Frances Slambert, has applauded all those engaged in successfully prosecuting the offenders.
