No truth in rumours that Dundee Adult Centre closing down

The centre is well known for its fun karaoke evenings, sports events and other outings that keep the residents not only entertained but also stimulated.

The Adult Centre is in no danger of closing down. Mac Osman (chairperson of the centre’s Board of Trustees) and Annatjie Enslin (centre manager for the past 19 years) said they had become concerned after hearing rumours that the centre was ‘under threat and will close down in six months’.

“How these rumours started remains unclear. However, we are fearful that such untruthfulness can impact greatly on our many generous sponsors who always step in to assist us. This uncertainty can also impact on our residents,” said Osman.
The Adult Centre was established in 1988 to care for and teach skills to those with mental challenges.

The centre runs a workshop where woodwork renovations are carried out under the watchful eye of workshop manager Jackie Coetsee.
“It is sad that those with an agenda would go out of their way to fuel these rumours of the centre closing. It is totally unnecessary and we believe that those who insist on spreading such nonsense should desist from doing so,” Osman concluded.
