Granny, baby die in tragic house fire
It is thought the fire was caused by an exploding heater but this is yet to be confirmed
An elderly woman and her one-year-old grandchild died when their Dannhauser house caught alight yesterday, Wednesday, afternoon.
Witnesses said the house on Bhowani Road was set ablaze after a heater apparently exploded. The woman and the child were burnt beyond recognition.
The Municipality sent a truck with a small tanker in an effort to extinguish the flames. However, witnesses said the water was soon depleted and the truck had to leave the scene to fill up with water. Neighbours also attempted to extinguish the flames using buckets of water.
The names of the deceased are yet to be released.
