Treat for ladies who give a helping hand to the less fortunate

Noeleen said that 'Ons Winkel' relies on donations of clothing, shoes and household items, and 'just about anything else', which are then resold and the funds used to help the disadvantaged.

Local ladies who volunteer to support the ‘Ons Winkel’ charity shop were themselves given a treat as a thank you gesture for the ambassadorial role they play in supporting the shop.
There are around 120 ‘Ons Winkel’ shops in the country, with the Dundee branch (that opened in October 2021) located on the corner of Ann and Karel Landman streets.
The network of shops is an initiative of Solidarity’s Helping Hand effort that assists marginalised families through practical donations.
Arranged by Noeleen Mulder of ‘Ons Winkel’ Dundee, the group of 10 ladies met at a home in Craigieburn for a winter’s afternoon of facials, beauty advice and gifts courtesy of Sh’Zen beauty products.
Hester Putter and Amelia Putter of Sh’Zen put the excited ladies through their paces, with local agent Mariet Coetsee assisting.
Noeleen said that ‘Ons Winkel’ relies on donations of clothing, shoes and household items, and ‘just about anything else’, which are then resold and the funds used to help the disadvantaged.
“Locally, we are supporting about eight needy families with food and other help. All the funds raised are used for this, so we are reliant on the generosity of the public and these ladies who do so much to help,” Noeleen explained.
“A part of the funds also goes towards studying for students who would not otherwise have an opportunity to further their education.”
She said the Dundee branch has been ‘operating very well thanks to the support.”
“Our shop is only 52 square metres, with just my husband Koos and I there, with volunteer Petro Hendriks assisting.
“We encourage the public who want to clear the clutter out their homes to consider donating to ‘Ons Winkel’.
“Anything would be appreciated.
“What you may consider as junk offers many a glimmer of hope during these times of gloom.”
Noeleen said that a very big part of the shop’s success is due to the online sales and WhatsApp group.
With the winter biting early, the ladies appreciated the gesture and enjoyed the spoils with essential oils and other creams to ensure that their skin is always looking its best!
There were also lucky draws and lots of eats…
And of course chatting!
