Another municipal electrical box targeted by thieves

The thieves appetite for copper is seemingly insaitable

Those who target municipal infrastructure for copper cabling and other material have struck again – resulting in a power outage in the lower part of Dundee towards the Home Affairs area and adjacent homes.

Residents on Indumeni Street this morning reported that an electrical box had been vandalised.  Thieves continue their rampage on homes, municipal infrastructure and businesses as their appetite for copper seems ceaseless.

Electricians have been dispatched to restore power in the affected areas.

A vacant home in Glencoe was also recently targeted with all the copper piping ripped out. The copper is then resold to rogue scrap dealers for around R90 per kg.

While the government has banned the export of such copper in a bid to clampd down on the rampant theft, there is no such on the local trade.
