Health professionals work up a sweat in honour of wellness day

Promoting healthy eating and encouraging employees to choose fresh vegetables was among the advice that was passed on.

Employees from the district health office, forensic pathology services, EMS, and regional laundry participated in a ‘well-being’ event on March 31, which was organised by the health and wellness division of the Umzinyathi Health District office.
The event coincided with March being TB and obesity awareness month. The day began with a fun walk organised by J Dube, District Director for the Umzinyathi Health District Office, with the assistance of the district office, forensic pathology, and regional laundry staff.
The purpose of the walk was to motivate the participants to exercise in a bid to improve their health.
The wellness day’s goals were to promote employee self-care, particularly mental well-being, and to spread knowledge of the value of leading a healthy lifestyle. (healthy eating, physical activities ), as well as promoting TB and obesity early diagnosis.
“Our workers will gain from this wellness day, which will boost productivity,” the Umzinyathi Health Department said in a statement.

The Department of Agriculture team, headed by Mrs. Addai, also participated in the event as they launched ‘the one-workplace ‘garden’ that encourages staff to produce their own vegetables.
