Parents in heated in argument outside junior school

A firearm was allegedlly pointed at one parent

Parents and learners are concerned about the safety of all learners after a fight broke out between two male parents in the Dundee Junior Primary School parking lot on Tuesday afternoon.

Witnesses claimed that a girl learner had ‘insulted’ another parent waiting to pick up his daughter. Both the girl’s father and the parent who said he was insulted got into a heated exchange during which one man went back to his car to retrieve a firearm.

During this time the first parent picked up a knobkerrie which was in his car.   It was after this that it was claimed the firearm was pointed at him.

The principal and other teachers were called and they broke up the argument. Later, both men went to the Dundee Police Station to lay charges. SAPS confirmed an investigation is underway.

The principal, Brits Maree, confirmed the incident but said it did occur outside of school premises.

Mr Maree added that ‘hopes are that both parents can settle their differences amicably’ and could not comment further. The Education Department has been contacted for comment and this will be published when it is forthcoming.
