Dundee SPCA in desperate need of new committee members

"Together we can make a huge difference in the lives of many animals. Please email admin@dundeespca.co.za to join."

Are you an animal lover? Do you want to make a difference in your community? If you have spare time and want to be that person who goes the extra mile, the Dundee SPCA is in urgent need of new committee members in order to run properly.

“Over the past 3 years, the SPCA has been operating with the minimum amount of committee members in order to stay compliant and thus keep our doors open. We are now urgently looking for new committee members and volunteers,” a spokesperson said.

“Keeping the SPCA going requires a huge team effort. We remind all that our main focus is the Prevention of Animal Cruelty, which requires strict adherence to rules, laws, and procedures. Besides this, we are tasked with fundraising, financial management, staff management and most importantly, assisting with animal-related matters.

“We have tried multiple times to apply for funding with our local municipality, as the collection of animals and housing of animals is a small pound function, which is supposed to be funded by the municipality. We have had no luck with this, but still, we continue as we cannot let the animals suffer as a result of this.

“We operate solely on donations and fundraising. From this, we must pay vet fees, resource costs, vehicle maintenance costs, fuel, kennel maintenance, equipment, electricity, and water.

“Besides the Small Pound functions that we assist with, our primary function is the Prevention of Animal Cruelty. This requires a lot of time spent on inspections, issuing of warnings, follow-up inspections, pro-active inspections, education, and report compilation.

“We currently just have four staff members attending to everything.

“Although we face many challenges, the job is very rewarding, knowing that our efforts help animals in our area and that we can maintain a place that they can come to. Without us, animals in our area from Pomeroy to Dannhauser would not have a place to go and anyone to seek help from.

“Many hands make light work and we ask that people consider joining the committee. You will receive training and support from current and previous committee members and if we have a good number of people, the work will not take a strain on individuals.

“Together we can make a huge difference in the lives of many animals. Please email admin@dundeespca.co.za to join.”
