Bodies of siblings recovered from flooded Mpati Stream

The bodies were recovered about 400 metres from the bridge

The bodies of a brother and sister, who were in a car that was washed away, have been retrieved.
The siblings were in a vehicle, driven by the boyfriend of the woman that was swept away when the Mpati Stream, near the Dundee sewer works, came down in flood following Monday’s severe rainfall.
The man managed to hold on to a tree until 4am until he could reach safety. The trio is from Madadeni, rescue workers said.

The bodies were recovered about 400 metres from the bridge that was flooded when the car attempted to pass.

Preshu Singh, SAPS, and others led the rescue efforts and have been widely praised for their persistence despite the rain that has returned today. The Mpati Stream is again flowing very strongly and motorists are advised to exercise extreme caution.
The Courier passes on their sincere condolences to the bereaved family.
