Three arrested for cable theft

Dundee was out without power for hours last Monday after thieves ripped out cabling from a municipal supply unit

Three people have been arrested for cable theft after they were found in possession of cabling allegedly stolen from the Forestdale area.

Members of the Dundee SAPS Crime Prevention Unit were doing routine patrols on Friday morning when they spotted the suspects carrying cabling to apparently sell at scrap metal dealers.

The suspects were questioned and arrested and the cables were taken to the Dundee police station for safekeeping. The three suspects will appear in Dundee Magistrates Court for a bail application.

There has been a surge in cable theft with businesses and residential homes relentlessly targeted. Last week Dundee was out without power for hours after thieves ripped out cabling from a municipal supply unit near Forestdale.
