Thirty-hour black out leaves half of Dundee in darkness

Residents are furious with having to contend with a massive outage just days after overcoming a water shedding crisis

Electricians will be working feverishly today in a bid to restore power to a large part of Dundee that was left in darkness from around 3am on Saturday morning.

Cable faults on Colley Street and in the golf course area left the south part of Dundee, from McKenzie Street, without electricity. The upper Berea area and Strathmore Park were also affected.

Equipment to help locate the fault had to be brought in from Pietermaritzburg as equipment sourced locally failed.

Residents have taken to social media to complain about the outage which has seen freezers defrost and in some cases, perishables perish.

The power may be restored later today.
