DUNDEE KZN: Fire engulfs abandoned station warehouse

The station has been dubbed an eyesore by many residents and business people

A fire engulfed one of the empty goods sheds at the Dundee Railway Station late on Monday afternoon.

SAPS and the Fire Brigade reacted promptly. Although the shed was locked, the fire appeared to have started in the roof of the building.

The flames were eventually contained. It is not clear at this stage what caused the fire but the area has been used by vagrants.

The Courier recently wrote about the concerns many have about the station which they say has come a run down area that ‘attracts bad elements’.

Transnet is yet to respond to requests for comment.
