DUNDEE KZN: It’s ghost season at Talana as October heralds a busy month

Pam McFadden of the Talana Museum Board of Trustees said that after her years of serving as museum curator, she has long lost her scepticism over the existence of ghosts.

‘Home is where the heart is’… That’s the theme at this year’s Creations Expo, which is currently underway at Talana Museum.
Held annually in October, the expo gives local crafters an outlet from where their goods can be sold – being either art, woodwork, sewing or homemade produce such as jams and preserves.
Open daily from 10:00 to 16:00 until November 7, Creations heralds a busy October at Talana.
The annual ‘Ghost Walk’ up Talana Hill will be held on October 20 from 17:00 and coincides with the anniversary of the Battle of Talana.
Pam McFadden of the Talana Museum Board of Trustees said that after her years of serving as museum curator, she has long lost her scepticism over the existence of ghosts.
“Many people have heard the howling of a little dog which was Captain George Weldon’s fox terrier that kept watch over his dead master after he was shot during the battle.
“Still others swear they have seen Colonel Gunning standing guard under the gum tree.
“The only way to test your own curiosity is to join us for the walk and see for yourself,” said Pam.
Two days later, on October 22, ‘Talana Live’ will bring the museum complex alive with military exhibits and sketches, a vintage car show and lots of fun.
