Peaceful march against GBV

“Nowadays, anyone can be a victim of GBV and we urge people to report any form of abuse to their nearest police station.''

Officials from AbaQulusi Local Municipality, including Mayor Mkwanazi and Deputy Mayor Mazibuko, took to the streets on Thursday for a peaceful march against gender-based violence (GBV).
There was lots of singing and dancing as the march started from the Klipkerk in Church Street and made its way to the new taxi rank. Along the way, the officials used loud-hailers to invite community members to join the march.
Gathering at the taxi rank, different organisations shared various facts and myths about GBV.
Cllr MB Khumalo explained that GBV affects both genders and all age groups. “It is high time that we allow humanity to prevail among us. Let us all stay away from any form of abuse, whether directed at women, children or men.’’
The Salvation Army gave a word of support, mentioning that a man can also experience abuse from a woman. “To avoid a society that has angry and grumpy men, we should get rid of the stigma that says a man does not cry. Men must cry, as they are also human.”
Warrant Officer Ramoikstso indicated that alcohol is the number one factor in GBV. “Nowadays, anyone can be a victim of GBV and we urge people to report any form of abuse to their nearest police station. Spread love to one another and fight against GBV.”
