AbaQulusi Local Municipality hosted its first-ever horse racing competition under the theme ‘Embracing Your Heritage’.
The event was held at Mondlo, Ward 17 Emalayinini, on Saturday. The event also featured a fashion show and showcased different skills from members of the community.
Residents turned up in numbers, wearing stylish outfits; the dress code was ‘elegant’.
Municipal officials also graced the event with their presence and AbaQulusi Mayor Khehla Mkhwanazi explained that, “There is a need for sporting events to be held on a continuous basis, as AbaQulusi is filled with talented men and women.” He also emphasised that events like these must be included in the budget for the upcoming financial year, as they ensure that the youth and community at large remains inspired to explore their skills and talents. Mkhwanazi said this horse racing event was inspired by a local jockey and his horse, MbayiMbayi, who have won several horse racing competitions in different districts. Mkhwanazi thanked all the participants, winners and people who attended the event, and hopes it is even bigger and better next year.
