Round Table celebrates international friendship and cultural exchange

Ncandu 86 Round Table recently hosted 16 young ambassadors from the esteemed 41ers Young Ambassadors Programme (YAP).

The YAPs, which included youngsters from South Africa, Europe, and India, spent some time in Newcastle as part of the South African leg of their tour.

YAP, organised by 41 International, is an exceptional initiative that offers the children of former Round Tablers (41 Club) members a chance to travel the world, fostering lasting friendships and gaining exposure to different cultures.

This year’s South African tour, which was hosted from August 23 to September 8, took the ambassadors to several places, including Pietermaritzburg, the South Coast, Zululand, Durban, Harrismith, Newcastle, Kroonstad, and Irene in Gauteng.

Nico McNamara, the national YAP convener for the 41ers, told the Advertiser that the YAPS Programme was established 26 years ago with the sole vision of giving young people an opportunity to interact with others from various diverse backgrounds; ultimately creating a more peaceful and united world.

The objective of the tour includes exposing young ambassadors to different cultures, building lasting bonds across the continents, and developing international understanding.

Nico McNamara is confident that the 41 International effort has contributed towards a better world by creating international friendships.

While in Newcastle, the ambassadors were treated to a celebratory welcome by the Ncandu 86 Round Table, thanks largely to the generous donations from Majuba Lodge, Snips Bird Park, and Thirsti Water.

According to Ncandu 86 Round Table, these local sponsors played a key role in ensuring the ambassadors had a memorable stay while learning about local hospitality and culture.

The South African visit is just one of nine annual tours across Europe, India, South Africa, Nepal, Cyprus, and the United Kingdom.

Each one of these tours aims at encouraging the youth to develop lasting friendships and to become ambassadors of ‘world peace’, serving as a bridge between different cultures and encouraging ‘global unity’.

The Ncandu 86 Round Table expressed their gratitude for being a part of such a consequential experience and thanked their members and sponsors for their support and help in creating an unforgettable experience for the ambassadors and the Round Tablers.
