Multi-disciplinary operation leads to the arrests of seven suspects

In the on-going bid to eradicate crime, a multi-disciplinary operation was conducted by the Osizweni SAPS, Newcastle POP, and various other units within the Amajuba District between August 28 and September 1.

The operation, according to the Newcastle SAPS’s Communications Department, focused on high-crime areas in the Osizweni vicinity and led to the arrests of six suspects for various crimes, including possession of drugs, possession of suspected stolen goods and the possession of illegal firearms.

The first suspect to be apprehended was a 19-year-old man who was caught in Section E in possession of crystal meth, Mandrax, and dagga worth around R1200 and knives valued at around R800.

The second arrest was made in Blaauwbosch when police caught a 39-year-old in possession of a Z88 9mm pistol. The confiscated weapon is believed to have a street value of around R15 000.

The third suspect (38) was caught in possession of seven live rounds of 9mm ammunition worth around R700.

The fourth suspect (32) was arrested in Section F for possession of mandrax tablets worth around R2 400.

Later, a 25 and 27-year-old were arrested after being found with unsuspected stolen goods in Section A.

The final suspect (22) was arrested and charged after he was caught with an illegal firearm.

All seven suspects have since appeared at the Madadeni Magistrate’s Court facing various charges.

All cases remain subjective to further police investigations.
