Stakeholders raise GBV awareness

Everyone is warned not to sit and relax when they encounter abuse, but to report it to the police station.

A gender-based violence (GBV) awareness campaign took place in the Sasko area last week. The campaign started with a peaceful march from the taxi rank to Sikhame Crèche.
Stakeholders like the Social Development and Health departments, local SAPS, Correctional Services, Othaka traditional leaders, Child Welfare and many others were part of the campaign.
It was said that their main aim is to fight against the pandemic of GBV, as well as the killing of women and children.
Residents had the opportunity to learn what the different stakeholders do and how they can assist with their expertise. “This was an eye-opener to the community, who are daily victims of GBV. Everyone is warned not to sit and relax when they encounter abuse, but to report it to the police station,” said the programme director.
Lieutenant Colonel Mzimela (acting station commander) thanked district social crime prevention representatives Sergeant Khumalo and Constable Nxumalo, the other stakeholders and the community at large. “Wathinta Abafazi, Wathinta Imbokodo, let’s respect women,” said Mzimela.
