Future Coal Mine attends to the needs of affected communities

A local coal mine is helping to give schoolchildren and needy families in their immediate vicinity a brighter future.

In January, just after the schools reopened, Future Coal Mine donated about 190 school shoes to the children of the schools near the mine.

Following the winter break, the mine provided learners with winter jackets, just in time for the chill-biting winter days.

“That feeling you get from the joy of giving is priceless; the little smiles that warm your heart and make you cry from joy are an absolutely amazing feeling. Helping out the communities is what Future Coal takes pride in, because at the end of the day, ‘Umuntu ungumuntu ngabantu,’ and we aim to make the communities around the mine happy. Though you can’t always make everyone happy, the ones that appreciate the difference and the efforts mine is making are all the claps of hands we need,” said Keo Mashabe (Human Resources Department).

With Mandela Day on Thursday, Mashabethe said the mine will be donating 30 food parcels to the families in the villages affected by the mine.

Schools that benefited were as follows: Ukukhanyakweze Special Needs School in Empondo; Haig Primary School; and Gijimani Primary School.

“The Bible says, The Lord loves a cheerful giver. Future Coal has indeed a good story to tell, and that is that we, as the company, will continue to make efforts to ensure that we always help where we can and effortlessly so. Well done is better than well said. Shine Future Coal,” concluded Mashabe.
