Mayor holds 2024/25 IDP and Draft Budget roadshows

Mayor Khehla Mkhwanazi kicked off the Integrated Development Plan (IDP) and Draft Budget roadshows last month, which finished on May 2.
Mkhwanazi, who was accompanied by other AbaQulusi Local Municipality officials, also did a handover of LED projects in various wards.
The mayor started by engaging with different sectors such as ward committees, Amakhosi and business forums, before visiting community members in different wards.
Summary of the operational budget:
Operating revenue: R715 012 700.00
Operating expenditure: R832 195 764.00
Capital budget: R56 205.00
Property rates: No increase due to the implementation of the new valuation roll. For the 2024/2025 financial year, all properties will receive an 18% rebate.
Electricity: An increase of 9.6% has been submitted to NERSA for approval. The municipality has applied to implement a high season tariff during the winter months of June, July and August, as well as a basic/surcharge fee of R10 per month on prepaid consumers, which will be deducted on the first purchase each month.
Refuse: Increases by 4.9%. Households will pay R162.07 per month. Small businesses whose refuse is removed once a week will pay R385 per month. Medium businesses whose refuse is removed once a week will pay R650 per month, and large businesses whose refuse is removed daily will pay R1200 per month.
Water: Increases by 4.9%
Sanitation: Increases by 4.9%
Equitable share: R215 636 000.00
