Zululand District Municipality provides relief to those hit by a cyclone

The Mayor spent the day at Esibukweni area, with the communities of Nongoma providing relief and engaging with the families who were affected.

Numerous residents of Nongoma Local Municipality were left homeless and helpless after being hit by a cyclone few weeks back, Zululand District Mayor, Thulasizwe Buthelezi led a delegation to provide disaster relief to the community.

The Mayor spent the day at Esibukweni area, with the communities of Nongoma providing relief and engaging with the families who were affected. The devastation caused by the recent storm left hundreds of households damaged, and some families displaced. 100 households have been identified to receive immediate relief.

“We are responding to this devastating situation which our communities in Nongoma are facing. We are providing them with essentials such as blankets, food parcels, building material vouchers and plastic sheets to assist during this period. Each affected household will be receiving this pack, as we continue to assess the situation,” said Buthelezi.

Continuing to engage the community, Buthelezi further emphasized that the Municipality teams are working day and night to ensure that clean usable water is accessible to the community of Nongoma, following some serious damage caused by the storm.

The Municipality Disaster Department is working around the clock to assist the Nongoma community and to provide shelter to those who have been displaced.
