Five injured in multi-vehicle collision on the N11

Five people sustained minor to moderate injuries following a multi-vehicle collision near the Utrech turn-off.

A multi-vehicle collision on the N11 (Utrecht turn-off) involving three cars left five people injured last night (January 6).

Charles Steyn of Magenta Medical Services said one of the drivers claimed that she was on her way from Newcastle to Utrecht when, all of a sudden, she spotted an oncoming BMW vehicle travelling in her lane.

She swerved to try and avoid hitting the vehicle; however, the driver of the BMW also swerved.

This caused both vehicles to collide with a third vehicle. The driver of the third vehicle allegedly fled from the scene before authorities or paramedics arrived.

Paramedics attended to a total of five patients with minor to moderate injuries who were transported by various ambulance services to Madadeni Provincial Hospital and Newcastle MediClinic.

The exact cause of the collision is still unclear at this stage and will remain subjective to further police investigations.

However, Steyn claimed that as of late, illegal and reckless overtaking into on-coming traffic had become a ‘major problem’, especially along the N11. He urged motorists to drive with extreme caution.
