Former president campaigns in Amajuba district

Former president Jacob Zuma made a much-anticipated stop in Newcastle to campaign for the newly formed Umkhonto wesizwe party.

A huge crowd gathered in Section 2 Madadeni on Saturday (Saturday 6) eager to catch a glimpse and hear from of the ever popular Jacob Zuma as he stopped in Newcastle on a campaign trail in support of the Umkhonto wesizwe party (MK).

Speaking at a fully packed Majuba TVET campus Hall, Zuma did not disappoint as he addressed the crowd rallying for their vote in the 2024 local elections.

In his address, Zuma told those who packed the hall that the party will try ‘it’s hardest to improve the lot of those who are impoverished.’

He further urged the public for support, stating that to make laws that benefit the impoverished  will require a party to garner a two-thirds majority vote.

Following the announcement of the MK party in Soweto on December 16, Zuma has been on the campaign tour throughout the province rallying the public for support leading up to the 2024 elections.

In a statement on December 16, Zuma mentioned that after much reflection, he believes the “ANC of today is not one we once loved and fought for.” He, however, has continually stated that he remains and will always be a member of the ANC, even though he is highly critical of the current leadership.
