Umzinyathi District launches new Stock Theft Forum

Various stakeholders gave speeches, including Acting District Vispol Compliance & Operations head Lieutenant Colonel Ndima, who spoke on behalf of the district commissioner.

The Department of Community Safety & Liaison, in collaboration with the police, recently organised an event in response to the need to create a Stock Theft Forum.
This comes after police noticed a significant increase in stock theft in the district.

Included in the forum’s structure are the district municipal speaker (who was recently appointed as the forum’s chairperson), Department of Justice, KZNCCPA (Inkanyamba, Iskebhe) Community Policing Forum, Department of Agriculture, CoGTA, District CPF chairperson, District Youth Desk, Farmers Association, Pounds managers, auctioneers, SPCA, and the Life Stock Association, to name just a few of the departments.

Various stakeholders gave speeches, including Acting District Vispol Compliance & Operations head Lieutenant Colonel Ndima, who spoke on behalf of the district commissioner.
She began by announcing statistics of stock theft related issues / matters, increased awareness of crime in general, and emphasised the importance of the ’16 Days of Activism’ that will begin on November 25.
“We urge the community to report any corrupt police officials with specificity so that the matter can be addressed at district level,” said Ndima.
She also advised the CCPA groups to collaborate with police in order to ensure that appropriate enquiries are made and to prevent other crimes from happening in the district.
Speaking at the event was the mayor of Msinga, Dr Zondi, the Western region manager of DCSL, Provincial Secretariat (DCSL), District Youth Desk chairperson, District CFP deputy chairperson, and Department of Agriculture representatives.
