Major General Slambert welcomes jailing of robbers

Umzinyathi SAPS district commissioner Major General Francis Slambert praised all of the participating officers.

Two men have been jailed for 15 years after they were found guilty of robbery (with aggravating circumstances) after a woman was attacked and stabbed in Glencoe in February last year.
Siyabonga Kubheka and Thulasizwe Mhlongo were arrested and charged with the robbery following an investigation by Detective Captain Maharaj.
The case was then set for trial in the Dundee Regional Court, where they were denied bail after the court described Glencoe as a ‘hot-spot for such robberies’.

The pair were subsequently found guilty and sentenced. Police also had further success when Nkosikhona Sibisi was found guilty and sentenced to 13 years’ imprisonment (and further declared unfit to possess a firearm) when he was charged for an October 2020 house robbery. The homeowners were robbed of jewellery worth around R17,000.

The case was assigned to Detective Warrant Officer Nkabini.
The case was set for trial, also in the Dundee Regional Court. Accused number 1, Sibisi, was found guilty and jailed.
The cases of the other two suspects are yet to be finalised.
Major General Francis Slambert (Umzinyathi SAPS district commissioner) applauded all the officers involved and further assured the citizens of the district that ‘we shall not rest until Umzinyathi is a crime-free zone’.
