Life sentence for murder suspect

After the matter was set for trial, Buthelezi was found guilty and given a life sentence on November 2 by the court.

The Dundee Regional Court sentenced 47-year-old Bheki Buthelezi to life in prison for the February 2022 murder of Siyabonga Buthelezi (24).

The accused attacked the deceased at his home in Sithembile, Glencoe, while he was asleep, stabbing him multiple times before fleeing the scene.

This led to the opening of a murder case at Glencoe police station in February 2022.
Thereafter, the case was given to Detective Captain M Maharaj (commander of the Glencoe detectives) for investigation. Realising that the situation required an experienced detective, he took on the case himself.
After a protracted period of eluding arrest, the defendant was apprehended and put behind bars as the investigation progressed. The suspect was found in Empangeni with the assistance of informers.
The case was prepared for trial and on November 2, the court convicted Buthelezi and gave him a life sentence.
