Teams battle it out at annual soccer tournament

The Dr. Wesley Maistry Foundation (WMF) Annual Soccer tournament took place on Saturday, October 14 at the Paradise Sports Grounds in Newcastle.

Soccer enthusiasts were in for a treat as 30 teams participated in a highly entertaining day of soccer.

The climax was the OPEN division, with 2022 Holders Amajuba Leeds playing to defend their title.

It was a true spectacle as the players showed true leadership, passion and determination on the pitch.
Amajuba Leeds Goal keeper –  Yusuf Chotia won Best goal keeper of the division for a Second year in a row.

Amajuba leeds talisman Abu baker (Carter) Zulu was prolific, scoring a superb bicycle kick in the semifinals defeating Boca Seniors from Pietermaritzburg.

He then scored and assisted a goal in the finals – This earned him the best Player of the Tournament award for the second year in row, and securing his Team Amajuba Leeds as the Ultimate Champions wining the WMF Cup / Winners medals / A full soccer Kit and the R5000 prize money.

The winners in the divisions were:

U12 Young Tigers
U14 An Noor F. C.
U16 Spartans F. C

The Spartans F.C walked away with  winners medals and a full soccer Kit.

The foundations thanks all the teams for participating and the community for their support to the players and the stalls at the event and looks forward to seeing more teams and stalls at the 2024 WMF Annual soccer tournament.
