Two women brutally murdered, two men in critical condition

On Sunday morning, a suspect was apprehended in Old Location and taken to the police station for questioning.

A horrific scene awaited police who were doing patrols on Saturday morning.
In Suid Street, close to Bhekuzulu, police officers found two men who had been shot. The men were in a critical condition and lying in the street. When the officers attended to them, they pointed to another location in the bushes. Closer inspection revealed two women who had also been shot. Both women were dead, with gunshot wounds to the neck and torso. One of the women’s pants had been pulled down, indicating possible sexual abuse.

The two male gunshot victims told police that a man had jumped out of the bushes and shot them. 9mm handgun cartridges were recovered at the scene. The two survivors were taken to hospital and later transferred to Grey’s Hospital in Pietermaritzburg.
On Sunday morning, a suspect was apprehended in Old Location and taken to the police station for questioning. The case has been taken over by the Organised Crime Unit for further investigation. The motive for the attack is unknown at this stage.
The Vryheid Herald journalist who was at the crime scene described it at as a ‘callous and senseless act of violence when one looks at the way these people were gunned down’.
