Tragedy strikes as factory fire claims lives of two workers

Official sources confirmed two lives were tragically lost while five other female workers were rushed to the hospital with serious injuries.

Two women died and five others injured when a factory in the Riverside industrial area went up in flames on Saturday, June 24.

According to an unofficial source, the Buy and Pay factory workers, who live and work in the factory, were trapped inside when the fire started.

Locals are taking to social media to question the safety measures and working conditions at these factories, further questioning why workers appear to be living in dangerous conditions inside these factories.

According to Facebook comments , a national inspector from the Department of Labour will be inspecting the site of the fire on Wednesday morning. The workers have called for everyone to attend in order to air their grievances about the working conditions at these factories.

The Newcastle Advertiser sends condolences to the families of the deceased and wishes a speedy recovery to those injured.
