Choir spends Youth Day singing at children’s home

''It’s not about what you give; it’s about who you are to the children.”

The youth members of the Izingonyama Traditional Choir Group spent Youth Day (June 16) at Inkululeko Children’s Home.
The children at the Home were blessed with hymns and dances performed by the group.
Sphesihle Zulu, who is one of the group leaders, mentioned that, “The first time I came to the Home, I saw the children and my heart ached, but I also realised that these children are looked after very well. We are a group that makes a living by singing at different events. We also come from different households, as some of us are orphans and some of our parents are not working, but we live through music. With the little we have, we decided to make donations to the children. I would like to praise the staff of Inkululeko Children’s Home for doing such an amazing job with the children; they are healthy and doing just fine because of the staff.”

Inkululeko manager Miriam Leveridge thanked the choir group for singing and dancing beautifully for the children. She explained that, “Our Home is based at a church; we are Freedom Life Church. We started with eight children and now we are on 21. We are grateful to people like you. You do not have much, but the fact that you came and poured your hearts out by singing to the children is plenty to us. Some of these children were thrown away and now they have a home and a future. These children have a normal life now, as they attend school. I believe that the youth is the future and the young people are the ones who will carry South Africa to the next level. It’s not about what you give; it’s about who you are to the children.”
Izingonyama is still in need of sponsors to pursue their singing career. For more information, they can be contacted on 081 412 7818.
