March to spread awareness about children’s rights

''We should not deprive children from exercising their rights.”

A march was held on Monday in the Lakeside area to spread awareness about children’s rights. The march was organised by the Department of Social Development, working alongside stakeholders such as Lifeline social workers, the SAPS, Home Affairs, Humana and many other organisations.
Forming part of Child Protection Week activities, the march started on Monday morning next to Harpo Primary School and proceeded around the new Lakeside Township to end at the new Lakeside taxi rank.

Speaking through a loud hailer, the community was educated about the importance of keeping children safe. It was said that, “Children are the most important beings in our society, as they are the future of our country. Their rights must be protected and they must have the right to education and many other things. We should not deprive children from exercising their rights.”
According to the organizers, the event was a great success and the message they wanted to convey was well received by the community. “People came out of their houses to listen to what we wanted to share with them. We thank everyone who was part of the march,” concluded Mrs Msane from the Department of Social Development.
