The campaign, due to run until May 26, forms part of the municipality’s intensifies measures to reduce incidents of fire outbreaks by raising awareness among residents on responding to fire emergencies.
The Disaster Unit team from the Municipality will visit a number of places in the area prone to fire outbreaks during the winter months, such as informal settlements where use of unsafe heating equipment makes them prone to fire disasters.
Residents will receive training in basic firefighting and first aid administration and receive basic fire fighting gear so to enable them to prevent unnecessary shack fires and other structures in their communities.
The program moved on to the Koppie Allen Hall in Dannhauser on Thursday (May 25) before concluding at the Thembelihle crèche in Newcastle on Friday (May 26).
