Vehicle hijacked in Newcastle recovered in Thembisa

Two suspects were arrested in Thembisa, Gauteng, after they were found possession of a vehicle that was hijacked in Newcastle in October 2022.

Following an intelligence-driven operation, police in the Ekurhuleni District detained the two, aged 29 and 35, on Monday, May 15, and recovered the hijacked vehicle.

According to a national news publication, a team comprised of the Ekurhuleni District Crime Intelligence, Gauteng Highway Patrol, and SAPS Tembisa Tracing Team personnel operationalised intelligence, picked up the suspects reportedly linked to a spate of house robberies in the Winnie Mandela area of Tembisa.

The suspects’ vehicle was discovered near a mall in Tembisa and later intercepted.

According to preliminary investigations, car is linked to a hijacking case recorded in Newcastle in October 2022.
