Municipality responds to recent week-long water crisis

“It was unintentional circumstances that were beyond our control,” he said.

In a media briefing held at the Newcastle Municipal offices on Tuesday (May 2); municipal manager Zamani Mcineka offered the community’s sincere and unequivocal apologies for the difficulty caused by the water supply concerns.

“It was unintentional circumstances that were beyond our control,” he said.

Newcastle Municipality Mayor, Cllr Xolani Dube Dube, reiterated that after the outpouring of frustration from the residents in social media, he felt it important to come and address the municipality’s financial situation.

“Please accept my humble apologies towards the water interruptions that happened this week. You as the community deserve to know the financial status of the municipality so that your expectations can align with the municipality’s ability.”

The Municipal Manager thanked Cllr Bebsie Cronje as well as Cllr Bertie Meiring for ‘doing a good job while under intense pressure from their ward residents.’

He also thanked citizens who  stepped forward to assist by way of procuring a much-needed new water pump.

Water shortages, burst pipes, and leaks should be reported to the call centre at 086 014 4144 or alternatively at 082 419 8533.
