Equality court rules in DA councillor ‘racist voice note’ case

After months of postponements and negotiations, the Equality Court has issued its decision in the case involving a local DA councillor.

The Newcastle Equality Court has ordered DA Councillor Connie Hariram to apologize to ward three committee member Thandeka Mhlanga (Reed) for a voice note that was widely circulated last year.

Following negotiations, Mhlanga’s lawyer, V.T. Khumalo, and Hariram’s lawyer, K.M Chetty, reached an agreement that Mhlanga requested be made into a court order on March 23.
