IFP ‘recalls’ Mncedisi Maphisa as AbaQulusi mayor

The NEC was tasked with resolving the matter and came to the conclusion that the mayor of AbaQulusi Local Municipality be ‘recalled’ from his position. A new mayor will be announced in due course.

The Inkatha Freedom Party National Executive Committee (IFP NEC) held its meeting on March 6 and, among other items on the agenda, received representations on the matter involving AbaQulusi Mayor Mncedisi Maphisa. This matter emanated from ‘voice recordings’ circulating on social media over the past few weeks.

In the audio, the mayor is allegedly heard instructing senior staff members that Supply Chain Management and Human Resource processes must be compromised and done in a manner that favours his wishes.
The NEC was tasked with resolving the matter and came to the conclusion that the mayor of AbaQulusi Local Municipality be ‘recalled’ from his position. A new mayor will be announced in due course; Deputy Mayor Mandla Mazibuko will continue as acting mayor.

In a media statement, the IFP has reiterated its firm position in support of women’s rights and condemns any abuse of office and authority that takes advantage of women.

Furthermore, the IFP says it remains committed to holding its members, leaders and public representatives to the highest level of discipline.
In a separate matter, AbaQulusi Speaker Cllr Mkhonyovu Khumalo has been redeployed to take up an Exco seat at Zululand District Municipality.
