The Madadeni High Court sentenced a 43-year-old man to 30 years in prison for the March 2018 murders of two people in Osizweni.

Lizzy Arumugam, Newcastle SAPS spokesperson, said the accused stabbed a 59-year-old female and a 34-year-old male in Section B following an altercation between the accused and the deceased male.

“It was said the accused damaged the accused’s vehicle tyre, resulting in the altercation. When the woman tried to intervene, she was stabbed to death. The accused then proceeded to stab the male,” she added.

Both victims were rushed to a nearby clinic, but were pronounced dead upon arrival due to their stab wounds.

A double murder case was registered at the Osizweni Police Station and the suspect was apprehended and charged accordingly.

The  docket was assigned to Detective Constable S.E. Nkosi of the Osizweni Detective Services for further investigation.

“Detective Nkosi deserves praise for a job well done and ensuring a successful conviction!” Arumugam concluded.
