Asiphephe bridge safe to use says Newcastle Municipality

The Newcastle Municipality has released a statement warning residents not to spread false information regarding the ongoing flooding.

The Newcastle Municipality has been made aware of a voice message that has been circulating on social media telling people not to use Asiphephe Bridge because it is allegedly unsafe.

The municipality wishes to emphasize that this is not true and that the bridge has no structural issues as a result of the floods.

“The municipality wishes to state unequivocally that the Asiphephe Bridge is still structurally sound and safe to use.

The voice note that has been circulating on social media has been discovered to be fake and includes disinformation, thus the public is encouraged to stop from spreading unsound false news.
