Emergency services on high alert as flash floods occur

Roads affected currently are Sutherland, Kirkland, Staghorn, Cinnamon and Asparagus, Link, Scoot and Boundary and Bird Streets.

Various emergency services are once again on high alert as continues torrential downpour has flash flooding in the lower parts of town.

According to emergency personnel, Fernwood and the Newcastle Taxi Rank are amongst the areas experiencing high volumes of water after the river along Kirkland Street burst its banks again.

Roads affected currently are Sutherland, Kirkland, Staghorn, Cinnamon and Asparagus, Link, Scoot and Boundary and Bird Streets and emergency services and volunteers are currently gathering and distributing sandbags to the affected areas.

Motorists are also advised to avoid travelling along the P39 and P29 (Normandien and Chelmsford) Roads, and the N11 as all the drifts are currently overflowing.

Furthermore, motorists are being urged to avoid travelling where possible as roadways affected by large pools of water can cause damage to vehicles.

However, should you need to travel, motorists are advised to practice extreme caution as vision is impaired in such treacherous weather.
