The substation in Jantha Street caught alight this afternoon (February 4).
Many areas around town, including residential and the CBD, are without electricity.
Alfred Duma fire fighters are on scene putting the fire out at the substation.
According to electrians, it will take a minimum of 5 hours to repair the damage.
