Multi-vehicle collision on Allen Street leaves 23 people injured

Paramedics stabilized the injured patients at the scene before transporting them to local hospitals for additional medical treatment.

A minibus taxi and two light motor vehicles collided earlier this afternoon at the intersection of Allen and Oak Streets, injuring approximately 23 people.

The minibus taxi transporting schoolchildren collided with two other vehicles near the Newcastle Mall, according to Jan-Henk van Vuuren of Magenta Medical Services, injuring 21 children and two adults.

“Paramedics stabilized the injured patients at the scene before transporting them to local hospitals for additional medical treatment,” he said.

At this point, the exact cause of the collision is unknown and will be subject to further police investigations.
