Jodine Schoombee (15) is quickly becoming a powerlifting machine, breaking record after record at national competitions.

Jodine, who was born on August 17, 2007, in Newcastle, is now a 10th grade student at Amajuba High School and excels at almost everything she endeavours.

“I enjoy powerlifting, modeling, drama, public speaking, hockey, and I try to study as much as possible,” she said with a smile.

Despite a diverse set of interests and accomplishments, Jodine aspires to work as a forensic psychologist one day.

Jodine says her interest in the sport was sparked in 2016 when she attended a competition with her dad.

“It just drew my attention right away, and I knew I had to do it! By 2021, I was fully committed to the sport and had begun competing. I also wanted to show that anyone, regardless of age or gender, can excel at this sport,” she explained.

For Jodine, the most rewarding aspect of the sport was achieving her goals and seeing her hard work and training pay off.

Jodine has outperformed her own expectations since joining the World Powerlifting Congress, breaking five South African records as well as four world records.

She also prioritizes her training, going to the gym five days a week.

“My training regimen consists of three major lifts: deadlifting, bench press, and squats, as well as two days of core training,” she explained.

Eddie Hall, an English media personality, actor, boxer, bodybuilder, and former strongman who she believes is always pushing to do better and is also known to be a gentle soul despite his strongman persona, is her industry role model.

The ultimate goal for Jodine is to compete in a World Championship and possibly break her own world records.

“I advise aspiring powerlifters to just go for it!  Never doubt yourself, listen to your body, and never give up! Just keep going, no matter how difficult it is in the beginning, because I promise it gets better,” she concluded.
