Newcastle police round up of the November crime stats

November has been a busy month for the Newcastle police and its surrounding communities as criminals continue to terrorise unsuspecting victims.

Newcastle SAPS corporate communications officer, Lizzy Arumugam, rounded up the statistics and provided a brief overview of the crimes that have plagued residents over the last week.

Ingogo:
– Detectives are investigating a case of the suspected possession of stolen property which occurred on November 23 near Remain Farm on the N11.
While on patrol, a crime prevention officer received information about a person in a taxi carrying possible stolen property. When the taxi was stopped, one of the passengers was arrested for having in his possession a welding machine, a water pump, and a tool box.

Newcastle:
– Detectives are looking into a case of possession of suspected stolen property which occurred on Allen Street on November 23.
Members were on patrol for crime prevention duties when they spotted a suspect with a grass cutter.
They stopped the suspect and asked him about how the grass cutter came to be in his possession. When he could not provide an explanation he was promptly arrested.

– On the same evening, police in Newcastle arrested a second suspect in Ameil Park.
Members were on patrol for crime prevention when they noticed the suspect carrying car tyre rims and a jack.
The suspect was promptly arrested after failing to provide an explanation as to how he obtained the items.

– Police are looking into a robbery with a firearm that occurred on Scott Street in Newcastle on November 25. The victim claimed that a grey Polo vehicle with four occupants stopped and he was threatened with a firearm. He was forced to get into the Polo and was robbed of his money.

Madadeni:
– Madadeni detectives are investigating a robbery with a firearm that occurred on November 18 at Lister Farm. The victim claimed that he was cutting grass when he was approached by two males who pointed a firearm at him, assaulted him, and robbed him off his possessions.

Osizweni:
– Police are investigating a case of common robbery that occurred on November 22. The victim claimed that he was approached by three unknown African males and one female who forcefully robbed him off his property.

– Osizweni Detectives are looking into a robbery with a firearm that occurred on November 23 in Mndozo, Osizweni. The victim claimed that she and a friend were walking when they were approached by three unidentified males who threatened them with a firearm and robbed them of their property.

– Detectives are looking for four men who robbed a man of his money in section b on November 25.. The victim claimed that he was approached by the men who threatened him with a knife and forced him to hand over his money before fleeing the scene.

– Osizweni Detectives are looking into a robbery that occurred on Steildrift Road on November 24. According to the victim, he was walking down Steildrift Road when he was approached by eight unknown men who chased and caught him, threatened him with pangas and knives and robbed him of his property.
