N11 protests bring traffic to a stand still

It is believed members of the Ingogo community are protesting against Eskom, demanding the supply of electricity.

Motorists travelling along the N11 between Newcastle and Volksrust have been advised to rather use alternative routes as protest action has brought traffic to a complete stand still.

Ashok Anandhaw, Protection Services Chief Traffic Officer, confirmed that protestors had been out in full force since earlier this morning, resulting in the deployment of various authorities to ensure the protest remains calm.

It is believed members of the Ingogo community are protesting against Eskom, demanding the supply of electricity.

In the meantime, motorists are being advised to use alternative routes as there is a major traffic backlog, spanning around 200 metres.
