NKZN JKA welcomes five new 1st dan black belts

Sensei Swart said hard work, grit, determination, and perseverance had all paid off. Read more here:

The NKZN JKA was proud to announce that five of its karateka had graded and were awarded their hard earned and well deserved 1st shodan degree black belts.

This comes after receiving a special visit and training session from 6th Dan, Sensei Johan Le Grange, who is also the Technical Director of the Japanese Karate Association of South Africa (SA JKA).

Following a gruelling and exhausting workout presented by Sensei La Grange, who was also one of the judges on the grading panel, the candidates had to demonstrate during their training and grading that they were deserving of the much-coveted black belt.

Finally, Majohanè Swart, Kelsey and Nathan Kemp, Stefan Potgieter and Tanya Coetzee were awarded with their new titles.

Sensei Johan Swart, Area Head and Chief Instructor of the NKZN JKA, stated that these students demonstrated their fighting spirit and good attitude by participating well and applying the five karate maxims of character, sincerity, effort, etiquette, and self-control with respect and dignity.

“All candidates were required to attend at least one pre-dan grading session prior to the actual grading date to determine whether or not they would be ready for the tough and very high standard expected of karateka attempting a Dan grading,” he explained.

Sensei Swart concluded by saying that hard work, grit, determination, and perseverance had all paid off.

“This accomplishment is internationally recognized and something to be proud of.”
