Local police are determined to bring down those responsible for crimes relating to drug abuse.

In a joint intelligence driven operation conducted recently, members of Osizweni Crime Prevention and the Newcastle District Task Teams worked tirelessly in the Osizweni policing area.

It began with the arrest of a suspect (32) in Section A, who was arrested after he was found in possession of five parcels of cocaine, worth approximately R5 000.

“Members then proceeded to a home in Blaauwbosch, where they arrested a 41-year-old suspect for being in possession of five whole Mandrax tablets, worth R500,” confirmed Lizzy Arumugam, of the Newcastle SAPS Corporate Communications office.

Members then arrested a suspect for heroin possession at a house in Osizweni’s Mkhwanazi Stand area.

“The 24-year-old suspect was apprehended with 10 parcels of heroin worth roughly R500,” Arumugam revealed.

Following that, a 32-year-old suspect was apprehended in Section C for possessing a bag of crystal meth, worth approximately R300.

“Police then arrested a 28-year-old suspect after he was found to be in possession of four parcels of heroin in Section B. The drugs recovered were estimated at around R200. Two more suspects were also arrested for being in possession of a large amount of dagga and heroin, worth around R800.”

All suspects have appeared at the Madadeni Magistrate’s Court.
