Five people were apprehended in Osizweni after an Intelligence-driven operation with the assistance of Osizweni Crime Prevention and Amajuba District Task Team members.

According to Lizzy Arumugam of the Newcastle SAPS Corporate Communications Department, police swooped on a house in the Manzana area and arrested a 29-year-old suspect for being in possession of mandrax (three full, two halves and two quarter mandrax tablets).

“Members then went to a house near the Osizweni bus depot and arrested a second suspect for heroin possession,” she said.

The suspect (32) was discovered in possession of five small parcels of heroin with a street value of around R650.

Later, police arrived in Section B, Osizweni, and arrested a 30-year-old suspect for possessing eight black bags of dagga worth approximately R2400.

The police then received information about a ‘person of interest’ in possession of suspected stolen goods.

“They then proceeded to a house in Section A and successfully arrested a 37-year-old man for possessing suspected stolen goods.” The said members also recovered one television remote control and a 32 inch flat screen television.

The estimated television set recovered was valued at plus or minus three thousand two hundred Rand.

“All suspects have since appeared in the Madadeni Magistrate’s Court. Police investigations continue,” she concluded.
