Taxi ‘vigilante murder’ case postponed again

The three suspects appeared before Magistrate Khan at the Newcastle District Court this morning (November 2) for their official bail hearing.

The three taxi drivers accused of murdering two men last month will again appear before a Magistrate on November 9.

Mzwakhe Thabethe, Pious Ngwenya and Siyabonga Zwane are being accused of murder after the bodies of two suspected thieves were found dumped on Terminus Street at the Newcastle Taxi Rank.

The three suspects appeared before Magistrate Khan at the Newcastle District Court this morning (November 2) for their official bail hearing.

However, the state prosecutor as well as the suspects’ attorney, requested that the case be postponed to November 9, as police had officially arrested two more suspects earlier in the morning in connection with the same double murder.

It was also revealed that police were in the process of securing several more arrests going forward.

Magistrate Khan granted the postponement and ordered the accused be remanded back into police custody, until the official bail hearing.

This is a developing story and further details will be published as more information becomes available.
