Sewage spills continue to plague CBD ahead of ‘empty promises’

As sewage spills continue to plague Kirkland Street, businesses owners are at a loss for words.

According to one business owner, who did not want to be named, the spills have become a daily issue, with sewage spilling in front of their businesses, causing a stink and driving away potential customers.

He stated that the municipality had started sending honey-suckers to the area every morning, but that this was not resolving the problem because the spills reoccurred within an hour of the trucks leaving.

Several business owners allegedly brought this to the municipality’s attention, but it appears to have fallen on deaf ears.

“We’re losing customers because they don’t want to come to us because of the odor.

Motorists avoid the area as well because they do not want to drive through the sewage, which causes their vehicles to stink.”
